HOW I

WORKOUT

FROM HOME

It’s a delicate task to combine a consistent Workout routine and being lazy.

But mark your calendars: For the first time in my life I have a Fitness routine. Don’t you worry, I still roll my eyes when I come across the typical Fitness Chicks on Instagram. I will never be one of them. I don’t own Gym Shark Leggings.

Actually I had prepared a number of Workout Blogposts, I hope you can identify with. A Fitness series for women who still prefer Beer over Green juices?
Due to the current situation (STAY AT HOME!) and a closed Gym we start with Part 3 of the not yet published series: How I stay fit from Home.

A HEALTHY CHANGE

Because wether Corona self-isolation or normal everyday life, I workout at home a lot. I can only do this because I’ve finally found exercises I actually look forward to every morning (yep it became a ritual like my morning coffee). And I can tell you one thing, these aren’t torturous and knee-destroying HIIT programs. You will never see me doing Burpees or Jumping Squats again. In my opinion a very special form of self-flagellation.
I simply started to care more about how my body actually feels instead of how it looks! And that small shift was a game changer for my motivation.

I always thought that exercises with weights and high intensity workouts were the most effective for me. You sweat like a whore in a church and feel like you’ve done something in this dreading hour. So I mostly ignored body-weight workouts like Pilates & Co., I thought these didn’t bring my desired results.
Until I was taught a better lesson.

THE 3 MAGIC WORDS

MELISSA WOOD HEALTH

As I mentioned before, Fitness Gurus cause chronic eye-rolling. However I came across Melissa Wood on Instagram some time ago and this woman embodies a healthy & fit lifestyle so authentically and without annoying the shit out of you, that I’m basically stalking her now on a daily basis.

I signed up for her 7-day free trial of her Workout program, a huge selection of 10-50 minutes videos to target different body parts (I’m loving the Full Body ones). She only works with small and low impact movements, which look super easy, but trust me: IT BURNS LIKE HELL.

After I was able to see more defined abs (!!!) and feeling all over amazing after these 7 days, I’m now on my second subscription month.

I’m the last one to preach about Fitness (I’m rather an ambassador for Craft Beer), but I feel so much better in my own skin and even my complete mindset shifted to a more positive state, because her videos also have some short meditation parts. So I can’t keep this woman all to myself.

WORKOUT RESOURCES

I like to mix things up. I usually go to the gym 3 time per week (more about this in another Blogpost) and workout from home the other days. I try to move my body daily, even if it’s a quick 15 minute session or just stretching, but I feel so much better when I break a little sweat before I officially start my day. This little habit actually changed my lifestyle & confidence so much and it shows that it doesn’t always have to be a preparation for Olympia to make a difference in how you feel in your own body.

APPS

Melissa Wood Health

Well read my ode above. I either do one of her 30-50 minute videos or combine two shorter ones. She also publishes a lot of Workouts for free on her IGTV and Youtube channel.

12 Min Athlete

Dramatic name for a timer. Well an advanced timer, because you can select Interval times and breaks in between. I like to use this for doing Planks (which I actually love doing).

Yoga with Adrienne

I’m honest, I will never be completely into Yoga, it’s just a bit too slow for me. But I’m doing it for my really messed up back and I love it for a good deep stretch after working out or sitting at my desk for too long (aka every day). I found Adrienne and her channel years ago and I just adore her relaxing yet total badass attitude and her flows are always exactly what I need.

Boho Beautiful

Another go-to account for years now. Beyond the stunning travel content, her Workout videos are also a perfect Pilates – Yoga mix and goddamn some of the videos are so challenging, I have to pause them in between, because the burn people, the burn! Do her  ‚Challenge‘ Videos if you want to go the hell and back (in a good way).

Rebecca-Louise

If you’re looking for some ‚faster‘ and more classis (HIIT) workouts, this is your woman. And especially if you need an extra kick in your lazy butt, because she’s going to push you through these workouts with her personality.

INSTAGRAM

Some other girls with amazing strong bodies I like to follow on Instagram. They also share a lot of exercises and nutrition tips, so make sure to check out their Instagram Story Highlights & IGTV:

EQUIPMENT

YOGA MAT

For obvious reasons. Don’t be an idiot hurting your back while doing these exercises on the floor (shop).

DUMB BELLS

I actually started with canned Beans (how quarantine friendly), full water bottles work as well. But after a while I needed some heavier weights (hah!) and got myself some 3kg dumb bells. Don’t ask me how much that is in this strange American unit (shop).

RESISTENT BANDS

These are a Must-Have, trust me. They are affortable and don’t take up any space. And if you hate doing squads (Is there actually anyone who likes to do them?), these bands + the right exercises will also give you amazing results (shop).

ANKLE WEIGHTS

I got these after Melissa Wood used them in her videos and Lord, even though they are only 0.5kg each, it makes a complete difference. Your legs & Booty are going to be on fire if you add them (shop).
