BLACK LIVES MATTER

THOUGHTS, ACTIONS & ALL THE RESOURCES

Let’s have the important conversation. The conversation we should have had a long time ago. The kind of conversation that we have regularly in my family, because my whole family has a very clear position here. We do not tolerate racism, xenophobia or hatred in any way. I was brought up by my parents and grandparents in a very open-minded way. Treating everyone as equal, regardless of their skin colour, origin or religion. But being anti-racist just isn’t enough. It doesn’t end the injustice and police-brutality that black people still have to endure every single day. It doesn’t take away the pain.

We need to take action. We need to show solidarity, online and offline. We need to listen attentively to those who suffer. We need to stand together and fight for equality. We have to grow, educate ourselves and put in all the effort to make a sustained impact .

I’m definitely not perfect. My biggest mistake was not speaking up sooner. Mainly because I thought that my reach wasn’t big enough to have any influence, to appear uneducated or to hurt someones feelings. I deeply regret this naive way of thinking. Because you know what, there is no excuse for not speaking up about it sooner, if you have the right intention, you’re willing to learn and to adjust, you will always be on the right path and can’t go wrong. So I will do better.

I’m well aware that not everyone was taught these values from an early age. So it’s even more important, that we do our research to be able to educate others as well and fight disinformation. I’m currently trying to figure out a how to use my platforms to talk about this complex topic in the future as well and I appreciate any kind of feedback.

I’m starting with this continuously updated Blogpost. I have been doing a lot of research and reading over the last few days to find out how to help the Black Lives Matter movement. And I collected a lot of links and resources for you. As I said, everything will be updated regularly, so if you have any other good input, feel free to let me know and I’ll include it.

You can recognize all additions & updates by the different font color.

If you don’t know how to offer your help, here’s a list with actions you can take. And hey, most of them are free, so don’t remain silent.

EDUCATE YOURSELF - EDUCATE OTHERS

During my research I came across this list. It shows you a lot of amazing black owned Bookstores in the US, another great way to support the community.
Actually a note to all my readers and not only from the US, try to support local and independent Bookstores instead of mindlessly ordering online.

MAKE A DONATION

I know that the last few months have been very difficult for many people, both health-wise and financially. Please don’t feel bad, if your current financial situation doesn’t allow you to make a donation, as this Blogpost shows, there are still so many possibilities to contribute your help for free. Also keep in mind, some of these organisations maybe reach their saving goals, so please make sure that they still accept donations.
